Some Reasons Why Teenagers Need to Learn Martial Arts
03/05/2008
Even without all the complexities of modern society, the teen years are filled with all sorts of turbulence. While churches, schools, and families do their best to help teenagers make plans that will lead to a good lifestyle, many still suffer hardship throughout their lives. Unfortunately, martial arts training cannot solve every problem.
On the other hand, it can certainly help teenagers learn how to mitigate or avoid certain problems altogether. Consider the escalating rate of teen pregnancy. A young woman faced with peer pressure and inadequate family planning counseling can easily find herself with a baby and reliance on a welfare check.
By contrast, a teenage girl enrolled in martial arts classes will have her energies focused on other things. This includes developing discipline and a respect for her body and its abilities. When pressured to engage in certain activities, she may well have the ability to say no, and stand by her decision.
Today, Chinese martial arts dojos exist in almost every community. There are also Japanese martial arts dojos that will accept teenagers. Finally, if your son or daughter loves music and dancing, you may be able to locate a school that teaches Brazilian martial arts forms. Irregardless of which type of martial arts school your teenager enrolls in, the benefits can be enormous. Aside from learning how to deflect peer pressure, your son or daughter will be in an atmosphere that is likely to be free of drug dealers and other types of criminals.
